Liner Notes for THE LOVE THAT'S LIVING INSIDE
-
The Love That's Living Inside - by John Kubal - This song began the Summer of 2012 on my Sister's birthday. We would often reminisce about growing up on the family farm in Wilford Idaho, about 50 miles west of those Grand Teton Mountains. I had only the opening line of the song and a mental image of the mountains. 14 years latter while contemplating all that had gone before and is to come, it finally came together. The passing of my sister, my wife and many other family and friends brought a new perspective on life and love. The image also shows the Teton River which flowed through a portion of our homestead.
2. She's All Mine - by John Kubal - I think a lot about the 51 years together with my lovely wife Janie and I realize I could have been a better husband. At the same time she could have been a better wife - sometimes. But the important thing that kept us going was Forgiveness and staying with the commitment to love one another. She made me want to be a better man.
3. Hand In Hand - John Kubal - Written a month before our 41st. anniversary as a renewal of our marriage vows. I'm glad my Janie got to hear it. The original recording is from 2013.
4. When You Come Back To Me Again - by Garth Brooks and Jenny Yates - Theme from the movie “Frequency”(2000) staring Dennis Quade and Jim Cavizel. (One of my favorite movies) Garth wrote this after the passing of his mom. Each of us remember things in our past - good and bad - loved ones lost and wish were here now. As I think about my Janie I can almost hear her voice and see her face and she's with me again. Echoes of the love living inside.
5. Wanna Be With You - by John Kubal - I found the beginnings of this tune in a pile of unfinished songs written in 2016 for my Janie. It's a song of remembrance and re-commitment. I wish she could have heard the finished product. In a marriage it's good to remember how love began to help keep us grounded.
6. Could've Been You - by John Kubal - This song has nothing to do with my relationship with my wife. I just liked the title and was inspired by a photograph of two lovers that made me wonder what might be the perspective of one who was present in that scene seeing someone he had loved before but now had a new perspective on life and love? Love relationships come and go and some just change but never completely end. (It's a crying in your beer song).
7. Can't Help Falling In Love - by Peretti, Creatore, and Weiss - From the movie “Blue Hawaii” 1962 staring Elvis Presley. I used to play the record for my Janie over the years. We both felt the same way about our love. Don't know why I waited so long to do my own version of it.
8. For This Love - by John Kubal - A song of the marriage covenant. I got inspired for this one by reading from The Song Of Solomon in the Old Testament. Janie got to hear this one after I wrote it. I played the 12 string solo parts on this recording from 2010.
9. I Have You - by Gene Nelson and Paul Nelson - From a Glen Campbell album “Still Within the Sound of Your Voice” 1987. Rather than an instrumental interlude I felt the song needed a lyrical bridge to be complete. So I wrote one. I think it helps anchor the song's title.
10. Need You In My Life - by John Kubal - This song began while watching an old episode of “Tour of Duty” where the character Zeke is separated from his wife who wants a divorce. Then I incorporated a friends' anguish about going through a period of separation from his wife. It also made me think of times when work took me away from my Janie or when we had arguments that seemed to damage our relationship. I will always long for her voice and touch - now I can only imagine - and I sense her presence when I pray.
11. Everyday With You Girl - by Buddy Buie and James Cobb - From a 1969 Classics IV album “TRACES”. I used to play the record and we'd hag and dance through the whole song. Thanks to Mike Durham for the Solo guitar parts and Britt Savage the the vocal Oohs and Aahs.
12. Our Love Is Heaven - by John Kubal - This is another love song to my bride that I found after 12 years buried in a pile of unfinished tunes. So many years later it restores precious memories and makes me realize just how incredibly blessed were our 51 years together. Hope you can relate in some way. Thanks to Pat Bergeson on Solo guitar along with Sol Philcox.
Studio musicians contributed most of the instrumentation on this project while I did all the vocals and rhythm guitar parts along with arranging, editing and mixing.
